Work to Weekend

Work to Weekend

My secret for taking any office ootd to TGIF?!  It’s all in the shoes!  This is my laundry look – that outfit just a little bit dressier than your day-to-day because…it’s all that’s left in your closet.  While deskside from nine-to-five I had on my […]

Something From Nothing

Something From Nothing

Was it just me this week or was anyone else Googling “Is Mercury in retrograde?”  Between the change of the season (or lack thereof) and the shorter days, longer nights it seems that everyone I encountered this week was having one of those weeks.  For […]

Say Yes to the Shirtdress

Say Yes to the Shirtdress

My favorite kind of staple closet piece is one that is a total blank canvas.  This Universal Standard Rubicon Shirtdress is the perfect closet addition as we transition into fall and eventually winter; I received it in my latest Gwynnie Bee box and decided it needed to be mine.  It was also my last purchase before I embrace a shopping freeze; yikes!

The structure of this dress what sets it apart from just any shirt dress.  Not only does it have pockets, but the buttons only go about halfway down which.  This is ideal in a shirtdress, for me because you don’t need to worry about gapping, sneak peaks and buttons coming undone.  This piece is also a great component for any girl who loves to play around with layering and styling – so much diversity!

For today’s look I went with simple styling options however, the pieces I used for style amplification are bold, loud and generated compliments everywhere I went.  Draping a sweater over the dress made me feel elegant and chic, and slightly like Miranda Priesley.  I stalked this sweater last winter at H&M, and patiently waited for the price tag to drop down to $10.  It’s one of my favorite pieces that I own but I always like to be smart when I pull it out of the closet because it’s such a head turner that I don’t want to disappoint it!  The same goes for the pointed toe loafers I found in the depths of the DSW clearance section.  While not the most comfortable, they draw a lot of attention.  To tie everything together, I threw all my belongings into my latest Kate Spade tote bag.  You could say this look is doing the most but walking through Herald Square I felt the most…confident.

The colors may be bight and not everyone’s taste but I felt very put together and polished in this look.  For those ladies who like more subdued colors try something similar with shades of maroon, navy and cognac – the perfect fall palette!

Over It

Over It

Name one thing in your closet that you always feel challenged when it comes to styling. For me that’s easy – it’s this pinafore style dress I got from City Chic last year.  I love the concept of this dress but the silhouette and length […]

Now or Neutral

Now or Neutral

I spent a majority of my life avoiding neutrals, thinking they “clash with my skin tone” but as I  develop a better understanding of what palettes and tones work for me, and grow more comfortable in my own skin and I’m learning that there’s a […]

Brooklyn Wedding

Brooklyn Wedding

Wedding season style can be overwhelming; deciding what to wear to suit a venue you’ve only seen Google images of, what shoes do you wear that will be comfortable, choosing the right handbag so you can sneak a pair of flip flops, the list goes on.  One of our college pals got hitched this past weekend in Brooklyn, and I wasn’t sure what the dress code really was.  I have a few dresses stashed away for weddings, but the dress I had that was appropriate was a little too heavyweight for a warm summer night.

Luckily, I was able to take advantage of my Gwynnie Bee subscription!  Clothing rental to the rescue!  A few weeks ago I noticed I was ready for a new shipment so I immediately threw some wedding appropriate dresses into my closet and prioritized them.  When I saw this City Chic dress was shipping out I felt like I own the lotto, or at least rigged the algorithm!  It was perfectly timed style synergy.

This dress was super tight in my bust, which allowed me to go braless but once I put Spanx on even breathing was hard.  Fortunately, it’s been a cool summer so I was able to brave the humidity and go without shapewear.  I love how flattering the shape of this dress is, and received compliments all throughout the night.

If you haven’t tried Gwynnie Bee yet, it will revolutionize the way you look at your closet!  You can try a 30 day free trial right now!

Treat Yourself

Treat Yourself

Every year in the weeks leading up to my birthday I get a little “treat yourself” happy.  As an adult I don’t expect to gifts from friends and family, so I find a few things I would not normally purchase for myself and swipe away.

This year I’m being extremely picky with my birthday selections – with my upcoming wedding I don’t want to spend too much on unnecessary items just for the sake of it.  Plus, as I integrate more rental subscriptions into my lifestyle it makes purchasing clothes much more restricting – I get a better sense of what I actually wear versus what I purchase just for the thrill.

The first item I bought for myself was the beautiful Melissa McCarthy Seven7 wrap maxi dress pictured in this post.  As soon as I saw this was being shipped in my latest Gwynnie Bee box I knew it needed to keep it.  The day it arrived also happened to be the last day of a sale where I was able to purchase it for only $54!  While this dress may be a little warm for summer wear, it is perfect for traveling to and from my honeymoon in December.

While I don’t typically gravitate towards wrap dresses, I really love the way this dress is designed.  There is a lot of fabric to work with (and I may have spent two hours hemming it by hand) which comes in handy when you are wrapping yourself up.  There is enough fabric in the front to fully cover your legs in the event that a gust of wind sweeps by and the tie, that can be threaded through either side of the dress, is long enough to wrap around about three times.

In addition to a new dress, I have my eye on a few other accessories and lifestyle products that I intend to purchase a little closer to my early August birthday.  Check out the roundup below.

J is for Jumpsuit

J is for Jumpsuit

Let’s put bathroom complications aside and just admit that finding the perfect jumpsuit is ultimate fashion satisfaction.  I steered clear of jumpsuits and rompers until this past year; I didn’t think they “worked” for my body.  PFT!  The ease of a dress without the summertime chaffing? […]
